The Model United Nations were created in 1951 by Harvard University

A Model United Nations consists in debates in the context of a simulation of United Nations committees. It gathers pupils and students from all around the world to negotiate on international and current issues, the result being the adoption of a consensual resolution. .

A ModelUN involves debating, critical thinking, research, teamwork, leadership and public-speaking abilities. The delegates are assigned countries, organizations or political figures and are placed in different committees, where they represent those bodies. The assignments are sent in advance alongside with the topics that will be discussed, in order to let the participants prepare their position and conduct research.

At the end of a MUN conference, awards are often given to the best delegates and delegations.
